Wet At Times Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 31, 2009 - 5:43pm.A weak cold front pushes west to east across Tennessee tonight bringing some showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder. It looks like the rain threat will end by early Wednesday morning followed by more sunshine for the balance of April Fools Day. Clouds gradually increase on Thursday with rain chances returning late in the day. Rain and a few thunderstorms are more likely by Thursday night into Friday morning. I'll have all the details on 6 News tonight at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
A "Progressive" Weather Pattern
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 31, 2009 - 4:46am.We will see a progressive weather pattern the rest of the week, meaning it will be a little unsettled or there will be some spotty rain chances. They will not be every day though. Look for more clouds than sunshine today, but with an increasing southerly wind, it should be a little warmer than yesterday's 60 degree high (today we should see low-mid 60s). There is a slight chance for a few spotty sprinkles or light rain showers, but no enough to cancel any outdoor plans that you may have.
Not As Cold Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 30, 2009 - 6:02pm.A gradual increase in clouds will help keep temperatures some 5-10 warmer tha last night so no need to worry about a frost or freeze unless you live near the Tri-Cities. A warm front will bring a chance of showers tomorrow morning. After that a pretty nice day is on the way with rain chances increasing Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Rain chances will increase again Thursday night into the first half of Friday. I'll have all the details on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
An "Up & Down" Week Ahead
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 30, 2009 - 4:31am.Today looks to be the complete opposite of what we saw on Sunday. Today we will see a lot of sunshine and much warmer temperatures (highs in the lower 60s). The warm up will continue through the week with upper 60s and even some lower 70s possible, but it will not be completely dry. We will see slight rain chances Tuesday, with a better bet into Wednesday morning and again Thursday night into Friday morning. Right now the upcoming weekend looks to be split as well between one being dry and the other seeing rain, but we will see if that changes as we get closer to it.
Warmer Days Ahead
Submitted by Bob Becker on March 29, 2009 - 5:27pm.Clearing later tonight. Look for cold temperatures in the Low-Mid 30's. A few spots may be even colder. With plenty of sunshine, temperatures will make a nice recovery tomorrow reaching the Low-Mid 60's. It will not be as cold Monday Night. Look for increasing clouds on Tuesday. There is a GOOD chance for Wet Weather by Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning. Just as we start to dry out comes another chance for Showers and Storms late Thursday into Thursday Night. So the week ahead looks unsettled.
Cold Air Returns
Submitted by Bob Becker on March 28, 2009 - 8:43am.MUCH Colder air will arrive today and tonight. It will become mostly cloudy and breezy today. Temperatures will remain in the 40's in most areas today. A few scattered afternoon and evening showers are also possible. Clearing but cold tonight as temperatures will drop into the 30's. Monday will bring us a nice break with a sunny warmer day before scattered showers return again by later Tuesday and Tuesday Night.
Big Changes This Weekend
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 27, 2009 - 5:44pm.A mostly cloudy sky is in the forecast tonight with breaks in the light rain we've seen today. A warm front will push some showers and a few rumbles into the area midday tomorrow followed by a stronger cold front Saturday evening. A few storms could may become severe as the front approaches east Tennessee. Much colder air will follow on Sunday with some temperatures falling into the 40's. Most areas will drop well into the 30's Monday morning. The 6 Storm Team will keep you updated throughout the weekend.
Slight Risk Of Severe Weather Saturday
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 27, 2009 - 8:19am.A dynamic storm system will pull out of the Southern Plains today where it will produce "Blizzard-like" conditions for portions of the the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, into the Southeastern U.S. where a severe weather outbreak is possible for portions of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi this afternoon/evening. That system has its sights set on the Southeastern U.S. Saturday (including East Tennessee).
Big Changes Through The Weekend
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 27, 2009 - 4:48am.We will see a mild day with a mix of clouds and some sun early, but there will be a risk of some scattered afternoon/evening thunderstorms (especially across the Plateau ans S.E. Kentucky). Saturday will start out on a quiet note, but we are under a "Slight Risk" area for severe thunderstorms (see our "blog" for more details)which are possible in the afternoon hours (damaging wind gusts will be the main threat).
A Break From The Rain Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 26, 2009 - 6:21pm.After a few evening showers you can expect some patchy fog to develop overnight, especially in those areas that received decent rain today. Friday starts dry with some patchy fog. Some showers and scattered storms are likely Friday afternoon into the evening. Rain will end Friday night but some strong to severe storms are possible on Saturday. The 6 Storm Team will keep you updated.
The Wet, Spring Pattern Continues
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 26, 2009 - 4:47am.Rain will be likely today, especialy through lunchtime, so don't forget the umbrella. Rain chances will taper off later today with warmer conditions (upper 60s to near 70)as well, but we will cool right back down into the upper 40s and lower 50s tonight, which means fog could be a concern for the Friday morning commute. A brisk southerly wind will quickly warm us up into the low-mid 70s on Friday. Most of the day will be dry, but watch for the risk of some thunderstorms by Friday Evening.
Rain On And Off For A Few Days
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 25, 2009 - 5:48pm.Low pressure develops and moves back into the region again tonight bringing another round of rain with it by morning. Some areas could pick up an additional inch of rain. The best chance of rain Thursday will be during the first have of the day. Just a few spotty showers are possible Friday and many areas will remain totally dry. Another round of rain and possible strong storms returns Saturday ahead of a strong cold front. Check out Storm Tracker 6 on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
A Wetter Weather Pattern
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 25, 2009 - 4:52am.Today will be the start of a wet weather pattern which will last inot the weekend. It won't rain all the time between now and then, but there will be some better opportunities for rain, especially today, tomorrow morning and early Saturday. There could even be a few rumbles at times, but no severe weather is expected. I will be watching Late Friday into early Saturday though as there could be a strong to severe storm threat by then...but time will tell. The second half of the weekend looks dry, but it will be windy and cooler.
Looks Like Rain Is On The Way
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 24, 2009 - 6:21pm.An approaching cold front will bring southerly breezes to east Tennessee overnight keeping temperatures very mild. Most of the area should see some rain around sunrise with a few rumbles of thunder possible during the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected on and off Thursday, Friday and Saturday with some of the region picking up over two inches of the wet stuff. I'll have an updated look at the rain chances tonight on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
One More Quiet Day
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 24, 2009 - 4:38am.We will see another quiet day with some sunshine mixed with increasing clouds and wind through the day and high temperatures in the lower 70s. A cold front drifts towards the area overnight bringing gusty winds and increasing rain chances across the region. Showers and a few thunderstorms look likely for Wednesday, before this system stalls out just to our West. This will allow the front to "buckle" and funnel more moisture back into the region on Thursday. I only expect spotty rain chances Friday, but an even stronger storm system will barrel through and push all this East by Saturday.
Rain Chances Increase This Week
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 23, 2009 - 5:53pm.High pressure controls our weather pattern tonight through Wednesday allowing just a few clouds overhead with very mild temperatures. Tuesday afternoon may bring high to the mid 70's in some areas. A weakening cold front with bring showers and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder to the area Wednesday. The system will stall out in the region bringing some rain chances Thursday and Friday. A few strong storms are possible by Saturday......we'll keep you updated throughout the week. I'll have a complete update on this weeks weather changes on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
A Quiet START To The Week...
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 23, 2009 - 4:36am.The tranquil weather pattern form the weekend will continue today and tomorrow with mild temperatures in the lower 70s, but we will see a more clouds around as compared to what we saw over the weekend. Then by Wedenseday, rain and a few storms look likely with a cold front moving into the region. This front "buckles" or stalls out and we will continue to see spotty rain chances for Thursday and Friday. Another, stronger cold front will push all this out by the weekend with rain/storms again likely for Saturday.
A Nice Start To The Week
Submitted by Bob Becker on March 21, 2009 - 7:50am.Partly cloudy tonight and tomorrow. It will be warmer tonight. Temperatures will be near 70 in many areas tomorrow. Tuesday will likely be our warmest day of the week with readings in the Low-Mid 70's. Enjoy the nice early spring weather as the next chance of showers and thundershowers will be in our area from mid through late week. The wet weather may even continue at least into the first part of next weekend.
Saturday Starts On The Cold Side
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 20, 2009 - 5:52pm.With a clear sky and light wind tonight, most of the region will drop near freezing or below by sunrise on Saturday. Most of the valley locations will be under a FREEZE WARNING from 4am through 9am Saturday morning. A few high clouds will work into the region Saturday night keeping temperatures well above freezing. A gradual increase in temperature is expected each day through the middle of next week when our next chance of rain returns. I'll have details on the weekend forecast tonight on 6 news at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Spring Arrives Today...Really?
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 20, 2009 - 4:21am.Spring officially arrives at 7:44am, but we will still see a "Winter-Like" chill during the morning hours all the way through the weekend. While lows today are mainly in the upper 30s, by Saturday morning MANY areas will be near (if not below) freezing, so think about how you need to protect any plants or vegetation tonight. The good news is, we will see plenty of sunshine and a warming trend through the weekend. In fact, we should see highs in the mid-upper 60s by the end of the weekend and we could be near 70 by the first of next week.
Colder Air Arrives Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 19, 2009 - 5:52pm.A clearing sky is on the way overnight allowing much colder air to filter into the region. The temperature has been falling most of the afternoon behind the cold front that pushes over the Smoky Mountains this evening. High pressure brings plenty of sunshine for the weekend but most areas will be at or below freezing by Saturday morning. The next decent chance of rain holds off until the middle of next week. Spring officially begins at 7:44 Friday morning. I'll have more on 6 News tonight at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Not A Washout Today...
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 19, 2009 - 4:32am.A fast moving front blasts through the region today bringing with it some clouds, scattered showers and eventually some cooler temperatures. It won't be a washout today, most areas will see around .10". Most areas should dry out by sunset with the clouds slowly thinning out through the night. Behind this front will be quite a cool down though...highs Friday will only be in the 50s and there could be a frost/freeze for many by Saturday morning. Temperatures will moderate though as we go through the weekend into the first of next week.
Rain Chances On The Rise
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 18, 2009 - 6:02pm.A gradual increase in clouds is on the way tonight as temperatures remain very mild for this time of year. A cold front will sweep across the region on Thursday bringing some rain along with it. Rain chances are expected to decrease from the northwest to the southeast as the cold front weakens. High pressure works back in Thursday night into Friday bringing more sunshine and much cooler temperatures. Spring begins early Friday morning and it should dawn with plenty of sunshine. I'll have a complete update on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Another Nice Day Ahead
Submitted by Ken Weathers on March 18, 2009 - 4:37am.Yesterday ended up being a splendid late-Winter dat with a lot of sunshine and high temperatures in the upper 60s. Today looks quite similar, except we should see as much fog as we did yesterday. Highs will top out in the lower 70s with sunshine and just a few late day clouds, but we will see more clouds tonight and tomorrow. There will also be some scattered rain showers across the region (especially afternoon/evening). This is a fast moving system, so sunshine is expected to return with some cooler temperatures by Friday.
Another Great Night
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on March 17, 2009 - 5:47pm.High pressure dominates the weather pattern again tonight with a starry sky overhead along with cool temperatures. Some patchy fog is possible early Wednesday morning but not as much as many of you saw early Tuesday. Abundant sunshine is on the way Wednesday afternoon before clouds increase late in the day. A mostly cloudy Wednesday night will lead to a chance of showers Thursday followed by cooler air on Friday. Don't miss the weekend forecast tonight on 6 News at 11:00pm.
