Rain Chances Increase
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 30, 2009 - 5:57pm.Bits of energy will slide through east Tennessee the next couple of days bringing showers and thundershowers at times. That energy combined with humid air and a stalled out front north of the area will bring an incrrease in rain chances for the first part of Friday. Other than that plan on a chance of rain each day through the weekend but a total washout is not expected. I'll have the latest numbers for you on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Today Will Look A Lot Like Yesterday
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 30, 2009 - 4:44am.Once again we will see a mix of clouds and some sun with highs getting close to 80 in the Valley (mid-upper 70s elsewhere) and just a slight chance for a few pop-up, mainly afternoon/evening thundershowers. And once again they will be more likely across the Plateau up into S.E. Kentucky. Rain chances look a little higher with a better opportunity of more widespread rain Friday and Saturday (but still everyone may not see it)with slightly cooler temperatures. This "unsettled" pattern will continue into the first of next week as well.
Small Rain Chances Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 29, 2009 - 5:38pm.A frontal boundary hangs out north and west of Knoxville the next few days keeping scattered rain chances in the forecast. The best coverage looks to be north of Knoxville closer to the front. Temperatures remain slightly above normal for this time of year. The rain deficit is approaching two inches in the Knoxville area for the year. I'll have more information on 6 News tonight at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
An Unsettled Weather Pattern
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 29, 2009 - 5:08am.A cold front is expected to stall out across South-central Kentucky today and remain around the TN/KY through Thursday morning. This will allow some shower/storm activity to develop along this feature through the day today. That means the most likely area to see scattered showers/storms today will be across S.E. Kentucky and the Plateau (60% chance). The Valley and Smokies will see between a 30%-40% chance. So don't necessarily cancel your outdoor plans, but be aware that with this "Summer-like" pattern, you could see some wet weather at any time just about anywhere.
Shower Chances On The Rise
Submitted by Bob Becker on April 28, 2009 - 5:54pm.Increasing Clouds tonight with just a slight chance of a late night shower.
A series of fronts will stall near our area. This will bring scattered showers and thundershowers the rest of the week. This will NOT be an all day Rain and not everyone will see rain, but the chance for scattered showers will be there for several days. Another front may keep the scattered showers and Thundershowers in our forecast into next weekend.
An Unsettled Pattern Returns
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 28, 2009 - 4:40am.We will see another warm day with highs in the lower 80s, but we will see a few more clouds and a least a slight chance of a pop-up, late day storm (mainly along the Plateau). The spotty storm threat continues overnight, but there should be a few more scattered storms and slightly cooler temperatures for Wednesday. We never reall get a cold front to move all the way through the region, so we will see spotty storms chances each day as we head into the weekend with the best opportuinity possibly coming on Saturday.
Another Beautiful Night To Enjoy
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 27, 2009 - 5:58pm.High pressure keeps the sky mostly clear tonight allowing us to cool nicely by sunrise. A few clouds enter the picture on Tuesday with isolated chances of thunderstorms but mainly along the plateau and mountains. A cold front stalls in the region the rest of the week bringing at least a chance of thunderstorms almost every day this week. The best rain chance appears arrive on Friday. I'll have more information on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
A Warm Start To The Week
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 27, 2009 - 4:30am.The heat from the weekend will carry over to the new work-week with highs today in the mid 80s and a mostly sunny sky. We will see a a bit of a pattern change starting Tuesday though with a few more clouds, "slightly" cooler temperatures (low 80s) and a slight chance for some pop-up afternoon storms for the Plateau and Mountains. The scattered storm threat goes up Wednesday through the weekend with some closer to average temperatures as well.
A Summer Feel Continues
Submitted by Bob Becker on April 25, 2009 - 8:23am.Mostly clear tonight. With just a few clouds, it will feel like summer again tomorrow as temperatures will once again reach into the 80's. Partly Cloudy and warm Tuesday with a slight chance of a stray shower. The chances of showers will go up by mid week and then we will see scattered showers and storms return for several days.
Just Like Summer This Weekend
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 24, 2009 - 5:53pm.High pressure will bring a mostly sunny sky to the region for the weekend with high temperatures some 10 - 15 degrees above average for this time of year. Rain chances remain low and confined mainly to the higher elevations of the Smoky Mountains. This pattern will last through Tuesday when a weak cold front enters the picture bring a chance for some showers and thunderstorms. Have a great weekend.
What A Warm-Up For The Weekend!
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 24, 2009 - 4:18am.We got to 80 yesterday beofre some high clouds passed through in the evening (as expected they came from some spotty thundershowers on the Plateau, but fizzled before reaching the Valley), but today we should see even more sunshine and warmer temperatures in the mid 80s, around 15 degrees above average!
Not As Cool Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 23, 2009 - 5:52pm.A few evening showers are possible as a warm front makes it's way through east Tennessee. The best chance of rain remains on the plateau as the showers weaken coming into the valley. Unusually warm air sets up Friday through the weekend with a mostly sunny sky. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the heat of the afternoon over the higher elevations this weekend. The next best chance of rain holds off until the middle of next week.
Warmer Weather Is On The Way
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 23, 2009 - 4:35am.The warm-up begins today with a mostly sunny sky...highs should reach the mid-upper 70s across the region. There is a very slight chance of an isolated evening storm across portions of the Plateau, but this chance is less than 20%. Temperatures spike into the low-mid 80s Friday through the weekend with a mix of sun and clouds and mainly dry conditions (the exception will be isolated afternoon, pop-up thunderstorms across the higher elevation areas of the Plateau and Smokies), very much like an early Summer pattern.
A Beautiful Night To Enjoy
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 22, 2009 - 5:22pm.High pressure wins out tonight with plenty of stars expected overhead. Temperatures will be a little on the cool side with most areas starting Thursday in the low 40's. There is a slim chance of a shower late Thursday in southern valley but it's not likely. The warmest air of the season shows up Friday and should last through the weekend with very little chance for rain. I'll have all the numbers for you on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Still Below Average Today
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 22, 2009 - 4:40am.After a chilly start in the 30s and 40s, we will stay below average this afternoon with highs in the low-mid 60s with a mix of sun and clouds and a brisk wind again today. The real warm-up starts Thursday and continues right into the weekend with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s each day. Today looks dry and so does Thursday, for most areas, but as a warm front lifts across Southeast Tennessee towards the Tri-Cities Thursday afternoon, there will be the slightest chance of a pop-up shower or storm, but I wouldn't cancel any outdoor plans.
A Bit Breezy Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 21, 2009 - 6:22pm.A WIND ADVISORY will expire at 8:00 this evening but it still will be breezy through the night. That breeze will keep the chance of frost formation to a bare minimum. Plan on temperatures dropping into the 30's by sunrise. A mix of clouds and sunshine is likely Wednesday and Thursday with a nice warming trend all the way into the weekend. Are you ready for some 80's?
Still A Slight Rain Chance Today
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 21, 2009 - 4:39am.We will still see a slight chance for a pop-up shower or sprinkle for some, but not much measureable rain is expected. We will also see a little bit of sunshine at times today, but with a brisk West wind and temperatures in the lower 60s, it will feel a little cool at times. The drying and warming trend starts Wednesday and continues right into the weekend. We should see more sunshine and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s from Friday right through the weekend.
A Few Showers Tonight
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 20, 2009 - 6:22pm.A partly to mostly cloudy sky remains in the forecast tonight with just a few scattered showers possible. Much the same is expected for Tuesday as highs remain a little below normal levels. Wednesday morning most areas will wake up to temperatures in the 30's before a nice warming trend gets under way. Most of the region will be close to 80 degrees by the weekend with little chance for rain.
Still Some Wet Weather Around Today
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 20, 2009 - 4:26am.After a soggy Sunday, we will still see a few scattered light rain showers around at times today, so keep the umbrella handy. We will see highs in the lower 60s today, but with a brisk West wind around 10-20mph, it will feel a little cooler. The spotty rain chances linger into Tuesday and the wind picks up even more as some cooler air filters in (we will see lows in the 30s by Wednesday morning). The temperatures will rebound very quickly though by the end of the week, in fact, we could see 80s by the weekend.
Rain At Times Tonight...Thunder Possible.
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 19, 2009 - 5:38pm.We will get some breaks in the rain tonight but some thunderstorms are still possible. The best chance of thunder will be between 10:00pm and 2:00am as a cold front works into the region. The atmosphere isn't very unstable thanks to the rain today so the severe threat will be slim as the front approaches. We will be monitoring it from the storm center. The beginning of the work week will be a little unslettled and cool before a warming trend later this week. I'll have a complete update on 6 News at 6:00 and 11:00pm.
Wet At Times Today
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 19, 2009 - 7:35am.Rain is likely today as a slow moving cold front moves west to east across the state. There will be some breaks in the rain and at times this afteroon. There is a slight chance that some thunderstorms could become strong to severe late today and tonight as the front gets a little closer. Once the system pushes to the east starting tomorrow...you can plan on a return to chilly air with below normal temperatures for a few days.
Wet Weather Returns For Sunday
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 18, 2009 - 5:11pm.After another great East Tennessee Spring day...look for some changes starting tonight. The clouds will thicken up with lows only in the low-mid 50s and there could be a few spotty rain showers overnight. Rain looks more likely around sun-up Sunday with some midday breaks. We will then see another chance of thunderstorms lae afternoon/evening (if we see any afternoon sun, some of the storms could pack a punch). The forecast remain unsettled as we start the new work-week followed by a real cool down by mid-week.
Another Nice Day...
Submitted by Ken Weathers on April 18, 2009 - 8:03am.We will see another nice day today with lots of sunshine, just a few late day clouds and highs in the low-mid 70s, but it won't stay nice the entire weekend. In fact, the changes start after sunset tonight. The clouds will thicken up and scattered showers will develop overnight into Sunday morning. Rain is likely for Sunday, but it won't rain ALL day. There will be scattered, occasional showers throughout the day and even a slight risk for severe thunderstorms towards evening and early night-time. The weather pattern remains unsetteled into the first of next week as well.
A Nice Start To The Weekend
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 16, 2009 - 6:01pm.Clear tonight. Partly cloudy and warm again tomorrow with temperatures in the 70's. Make your outdoors plans the FIRST part of the weekend. We will see a GOOD chance of Showers and Storms by late Saturday Night, Sunday and Sunday Night. Look for below normal temperatures and more showers early next week.
Improvements On The Way
Submitted by Matt Hinkin on April 15, 2009 - 5:30pm.We will see increasing amounts of sunshine return to the area today. This will also warm temperatures back into the 60's. Clear but quite chilly tonight. We will enjoy some nice Spring weather on Friday and Saturday with sunshine and warmer temperatures. The next front will bring Showers and Thunderstorms back to our area by Sunday. Cooler temperatures, clouds and scattered showers will be back in our weather picture again by early next week. Join Matt Hinkin for another look at this forecast on 6 News tonight at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00pm.
