A Few Showers and Storms

Partly Cloudy today as highs will reach 85 to 90. There is still just the chance of a few scattered afternoon and evening Showers or Storms. Monday will be a hot day with temperatures in the 90's in many places. There is just a slight chance of a stray shower or storm. Much of next week will remain warm and muggy. Each day there is a chance for scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms. With a weak front moving our way, the best chance for the Showers and Storms will most likely be Wednesday and Thursday.

Natural Fireworks Tonight?

HAPPY 4th Of JULY!! A partly to mostly cloudy sky is on tap tonight with a few scattered storms still possible in random parts of east Tennessee. Hopefully they will miss your fireworks display. A slow moving cold front will stay north of Knoxville tonight and tomorrow increasing our chances of showers and scattered storms. Don't change your outdoor plans for tomorrow quite yet, but do keep and eye to the sky. The rain chances remain scattered Sunday through early next week but mainly during the afternoon hours.

Rain Threat On The Increase This Weekend

Happy 4th Of July! It will be a warm and muggy Summer day with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degree range under a variably cloudy sky. There will also be a few pop-up afternoon/evening storms. The best chances for these storms today will be back along the Plateau towards Middle Tennessee (60% chance). The Mountains will see some spotty storms as well (40% chance) and the Valley has the least opportunity (30% chance), but still a chance. It won't rain everywhere, so don't cancel the outdoor plans, but be careful and keep an eye to the sky today. The better chance for more "widespread" coverage of storms appears to be on Saturday (especially in the afternoon hours).

Scattered Storms Return

With just a few clouds tonight, temperatures will be close to normal for this time of the year. Your July 4th holiday will feature typical warm and muggy weather. While not everyone will see rain, we will see a better chance for scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms then we have seen the past few days. Hopefully most of the storms will die down before the man made Friday Night fireworks go off. As a front approaches, we will see a good chance of afternoon and evening storms on Saturday, although it will NOT be an all day rain and it certainly will not be a wash out. By Sunday, we will once again be dealing with scattered showers and storms developing over parts of the area once again.

2nd Named Storm Of The Atlantic Hurricane Season

The second named storm of the Hurricane season has formed about 200 miles South-Southwest of the Cape Verde Islands (West of the African coast). It has sustained winds of about 40mph and is moving off to the West at about 14mph. The Hurricane Center's forecast (which can be clicked on below) keeps the storm out over open water and well away from and land through the beginning of next week. The are some other computer models though which want to steer it more towards the Lesser Antilles by the first of next week, simply because the Bermuda high is so strong. This is the same high pressure center which has kept much of the Southeastern U.S. so dry over the past few weeks. In order for this storm to head in a more Nothwesterly component, this high pressure system would have to shift well to the East towards Europe...we will see. This storm also has a lot of negatives going for it including sea surface temperatures...they are simply just still too cool for this time of year. The warmer waters (and more typical early July storm formation locations) are located in the Carribean and the Gulf of Mexico. The "Cape Verde Season" is usually late August-September and these storms can be bad because they can spend so much time over the open Atlantic waters (like Andrew in 1992). To sum it up, there is NO worry at all for a U.S. landfall over the 4th of July Holiday Weekend so don't worry about that and most likely this storm will fizzle out by late weekend somewhere over the open Atlantic waters (my opinion)...but stranger things have happened....stay tuned!

Some Wet Weather Chances For The Holiday Weekend

Mother Nature will start to turn up the heat today with highs topping out in the upper 80s to near 90 degree range and just a mix of sun and clouds. The Holiday weekend is almost upon us and wouldn't you know it, rain is in the forecast. It won't be a total washout, but there will be some storm opportunities each day. Friday, the best chance will be back across Middle Tennessee to the Plateau. Then this systems heads East for Saturday and our rain chances go up area-wide and continue to stay high through Sunday. It won't be a total washout though this weekend...you will have some dry times each day this Holiday Weekend.

Warming Up

Clear and very comfortable again tonight. Mostly sunny Thursday but temperatures will warm to Near 90 in some areas. The warming trend will continue Thursday Night. Friday the 4th of July will bring very typical weather. It will be warm and muggy. We may see a few scattered afternoon and evening showers or storms but they will be fairly scattered. As a front moves our way and stalls on our area, we will see a big increase in the chance of scattered Showers and Storms this weekend. It will not be a total washout but there is certainly the chance for scattered showers and storms each day.

Unsettled Weather Returns For The Holiday Weekend

After another nice start, we will be a little closer to our average high for early July (mid-upper 80s) with a mostly sunny sky. We are under an air quality alert though for the Valley and the Mountains, so don't over-do it if you have respiratory problems. We should see one more below-average night tonight and then we quickly warm into the upper 80s for Thursday. There is a "slight" risk for a few pop-up, late day storms on the 4th, but the better bet appears to be Saturday and Sunday.
